The Importance of vitamin C

Many of us associate Vitamin C with orange juice in the morning, or a powder you put in your drink to help fight off a cold. Although oranges are a great source of Vitamin C and infection-fighting power, this little powerhouse does so much more. While Vitamin C is extremely important for immune function, it also has many beauty benefits such as boosting collagen production, balancing our skin, and when applied topically, it can improve dark spots and lead to a clearer complexion.

Although Vitamin C has incredible benefits on its own, it’s also vital to help the body absorb other nutrients, such as iron. When I’m feeling especially low on iron, leading to fatigue or dizziness, I opt to make a spinach salad, and add some fresh strawberries or a squeeze of lemon on top, allowing my body to uptake all of the nutrients my system needs.

Along with systematic nutrients, Vitamin C helps with the production of collagen, leading to plump skin, balanced complexion, and increased elasticity. According to board certified dermatologist, Dr. Patricia Wexler, the antioxidants in Vitamin C help our body regenerate skin cells, leading to all of the aforementioned benefits.

I opt to incorporate a Vitamin C serum in my daily skincare routine, but if that isn’t your thing, ingesting foods high in Vitamin C such as citrus fruits, white potatoes, bell peppers, and strawberries, you will still feel the systematic and skin benefits.
